

Inspired by a Master
-Philipe Halsman was born in Riga, Lativa in 1906 and lived until 1979. At the age of fifteen, he discovered an old view-camera in his home attic, in which is father use to use when he took photographs. This began his photography. After this, most of his money went towards his hobby as being a photo grapher. In 1934 he opened his first portrait studio in Montparnasse where he photographed various well known artists and writers.

-Interesting Facts: In September of 1928, Halsman was accused of his fathers murder while they were on a hiking trip in the Austrian Tyrol. After he was tried, he was sentenced to 4 years in prison. He gained help from family, friends, Einstein and many other European intellectuals in order to prove his innocence, and was released from prison in 1930.
Halsman shot photos of many tings, from taking photos of the president to photos for greeting cards. He was important because he took photographs of some of the most famous artists, entertainers, writers, politicians and musicians. also because at his time, He shot for magazines such as Vogue, and was known as one of the best portrait photographers in France.
